The fashion house Chloe began life in 1952 founded by Gaby Aghion (a parisian of Egyptian origin) and her partner Jacques Lenoir. The history behind the name Chloe is simple, Gaby felt that her own name sounded like it belonged to a fortune-teller so borrowed the warm and feminine sounding Chloe from a friend!
Before the launch of Chloe, luxury fashion houses had only produced Haute Couture (made-to-measure) clothing. For those that could afford it this was fine, but for the rest they tended to wear poorly constructed copies made by a local seamstress.
